One starry night will bring out a rare smile
The Festival of Stars. Running for weeks on end, this traditional festival was a stunning one. Many families from all around the surrounding area took time to come visit this yearly event, and, the Akimoto family was no exception.
Chiaki's family came into town to spend this wonderful night with her. It had surprised her when her Onii-san and Okaa-chan showed up at her dorm door. Hastily, she let them in and they all caught up while getting ready for the festival.
It took a few hours, but Chiaki and her mother were dressed nicely in their kimonos, while Ryo-Chiaki's older brother-was dressed in his simple kimoto. It was strange, even the family pet, now very old as she was, came along too. Together, the small group headed out on foot to the board walk where the events were being held.
On the way, Chiaki gaze up towards the darkening sky. You could already see the change in the stars, seeing as how the festival had been going on for weeks already. It was as brilliant as the glow of lanterns around them.
This was one of the rare times that Chiaki could smile, and maybe even laugh. When she was among her family, calm and without the stress of school or other frightful things, the young woman found it easier to be around people. She was not one to talk, nor to make friends, but it changed on nights such as this.
The petite woman though, found herself wandering around alone-unless you count Nami, the family pet trotting happily by her side. Where in the world had her mother and brother gone off to now? The light smile that had occupied her face all night, quickly fell into a sour frown. No way could she enjoy this without her loved ones...no way...
Or so she had thought. But after over an hour looking for Ryo and her mother, Chiaki decided that maybe she could find something to do; something fun. Such a rare thing to think of with her, but never-the-less, it happened.
So, with Nami still faithfully by her side, Chiaki roamed the boardwalk, eating, drinking, playing games even! Within no time, her small smile graced her lips yet again.
It was time to take a break, she concluded, and look for her family. While taking some of the food from the last stand, she looked down to Nami. "Lets go find Ryo and Kaa-chan."
In response, a loud yet carefree bark echoed in the bustling crowd. With that, she set off and attempted to weave her way around the many people. That is, until she smacked face first into something hard, causing her not only to fall back, but to drop her food and swallow the bite that was in her mouth unusually fast. She started to cough and pound on her chest until her passage ways were clear, then narrowed her eyes to the person standing in front of her. "Idiot." She muttered under her breath before standing up and brushing herself off. Looking to her spilled food, and Nami who quickly took the opportunity to eat some of it, Chiaki shook her head. She bent down and began to pick what was left of the food, up and into her arms.

Ah yes, the one night that Miss Hanako actually left the cave that she called a dorm room. Ever since she was a child, this night was always special to her, so she left her anti-socialism back in her room. Hanako dressed in a casual kimono; something she didn't wear often, with her hair short in the back as usual, and her bangs hanging in front of her face.
She watched as many on goers passed her, also dressed in kimono's. A small smirk formed on her face as she watched one little girl, who looked to be five run around with a small puppy at her heels. It was a very rare to see Hanako actually smile. To tell you the truth, small children were her weakness, amoung other things that she didn't want others to know. She felt as if showing her weaknesses would allow others to stomp on her, hence the reason she often showed no emotion on her face.
Hanako stopped for a moment, seeing a girl from school not to far ahead of her. Should she go up and say hi? Perhaps try and turn her personality around? Perhaps later. For now, Hanako was going to keep her distance.

Grumbling, Chiaki tossed-yet again-another stepped on piece of food towards where she thought the trash can was. What was with people this day-and-age? A young woman, sitting uncomfortably on her heels and trying to pick up food off the ground, was just getting passed by! Chiaki would understand if you know, if all these people were people she had been personally rude to before; but then again, that was impossible! Wasn't there one, kind stranger out there to lend her a hand?
I don't need it. She thought solemnly. A slightly bitter mood was replacing her once happy face, (as happy as it got anyway). "I give up."
She said, standing up and brushing off her kimono while Nami, as if on cue, started to scarf up all the soiled products. Nothing like a dog to make sure no food goes to waste, ne? Putting her hands on her hips, Chiaki scanned the crowed while Nami ate, keeping an eye out for her brother or mother. Instead, she spied a girl who was peering back at her. Letting her gaze linger on the short-haired girl, Chiaki cocked her head slightly. She looked oddly familiar...A girl from school, maybe? She looked away-to the rest of the flood of people around her-then back to her possible classmate. Should she, for once in her life, try to interact with others outside her family on an unnecessary time? What the hell. She thought with a small sigh. Calling Nami with her, the Akimoto girl made her way to the one who was looking at her. Once about a foot in front of her, she bowed her head then straitened up. "Excuse me, do I happen to know you?" She asked in a polite and practiced-calm voice.[/blockquote] Words: 367 Status: Finished Music: Osaka Koi no Uta by Morning Musume (o.O Twice in a row now) Comments: Sorry for the long wait. Hanako was a little baffled at first to actually hear someone directing something towards her. " Uhm yes, we go to school together. It's not a big surprise that you hardly recognize me, I barely step out of my room unless I go to class but other than that, I am a total hermit." She said, a small chuckle soon following. Hanako looked to the small child that was playing with her little white dog for a moment, before looking back to Chiaki and her fellow companion.
It soon dawned on her that she had not properly introduced herself. " My apologies, I am Hanako." She said softly, and then bowed politely. Hanako stood up slowly and remained looking down at her feet for a moment. A small gust of wind soon swept up and enveloped the small group. Hanako looked at the piece of hair that fell before her eyes. Raising her small hand, she removed the strand of hair and gently tucked it behind her ear.

Behind her back, Chiaki twisted the fabric of her kimono in her hands. It was...weird talking to someone that was outside her small group of family; the young woman didn't really have any friends. She felt oddly out of place without her brother here to talk for her, or her mother here to give her something to say. She sighed mentally though, when the other young person she replied to her question. At least she wasn't an idiot and say something that wasn't true. But then again, with Chiaki's eye for detail, she could pick up almost anything.
"I see." She nodded. "You're not the only one, trust me."
A small smile flicked across her lips. It was true, Chiaki studied most of her time-making sure she gets the best grades she can. If she wasn't studying, she was in the library reading up on different subjects. Or looking up the Tokyo news. Chiaki started when Hanako bowed to her; she wasn't used to many people doing such. But, again, a small smile graced her lips and Chiaki bowed as well. "Nice to formally meet you, Hanako-san. I am Akimoto Chiaki, and this," she motioned to the dog at her heel, sitting quietly yet curiously. "is Nami." As the wind picked up, Chiaki used her right hand to hold back the loose hair so it wouldn't be in her face.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Chiaki-San." A small smile formed on her face as Hanako looked down at Chiakis small companion."He's cute."She said softly. Hanako had always wanted a dog, but her parents felt that it would distract her from her studies. Stupid, yes but whatever her parents said, went and Hanako never spoke back. A soft sigh emerged from her lips as she glanced up at the sky once more. "I thought that this festival would actually change my mind about the world outside of my dorm room, but I guess not."She retorted, not really directing it towards anyone. A small firework went off, making Hanako jump for a moment. She laughed at herself and placed a hand ehind her head. Feeling quite foolish that she had jumped. Sure others probably did the same thing that she did, but it was somewhat embarrassing to her. The hand that had been placed behind her head, now hung limply at her side. Hanako bit her lip, trying to think of something to say; something that would keep the conversation going.
