Desperately reaching for her sword, she tried to sleigh the shadowy beast that followed her. Why couldn't she reach her damn swords?! She was about to be swallowed whole for challenging this beast! She felt herself falling! Falling! Falling!
"Ow..." she said softly. Katanai opened her eyes. "It was all just a dream," she commented to herself with a sigh. She had fallen out of something. Her bed? No. It was a tree. "I fell asleep in a tree...again?" she questioned herself irritatedly. Lately, Katanai had a habit of falling asleep in trees.
Her eyes swept across the area. She was obviously somewhere in the woods. She looked at the sky. It was lit with a bright barrage of yellows and pinks--Kat's two least favorite colors. She rubbed her eyes. Was it daybreak? Had she spent the night out in the woods? She looked for her cat, whom she knew would be close by. Without too much effort, she spotted a pair of glowing green eyes. Katanai looked at the sky once more, feeling the impact of her cat jumping onto her shoulder. It was growing dimmer, not lighter. It was about to turn into night! "Great..." she muttered. She was still half asleep.
Suddenly, she heard a sneeze. "Aurora..." she muttered, remembering that her cat was ill. Or was she? Katanai was in quite the daze. The cat just nuzzled her master, as if to say that she was okay. "Oh...good," Katanai added with a yawn and a stretch.
She jumped back up onto the tree branch. Standing on the edge, she scanned the perimeter for her dorm. Nothing. She couldn't see where she was. She began to sweat. It wouldn't be good--being late for school. Although, she really didn't care. Aurora looked at her, meowing softly. "Oh. It's Friday, you say?" Katanai said with a thankful tone in her voice.
She sat lazily down on the branch. What was the big deal? It was just one night. She could take it. She could cut some wood off a tree branch to make fire if she got too cold, she could probably find some edible berries and a river to drink from. It was all the comfort of home outdoors. She was actually kind of glad to be away from everything. She looked into the horizon, anticipating a night under the stars. So far, it was a lovely Autumn night. Nothing could ruin it.
Katanai allowed the crisp scent of the falling leaves fill her soul. The chilled breeze hushed, whisking gently through her hair. She now stood, facing the direction of the wind, on that tree branch. Her hair was being blown back. Her sleeves and skirt too. She was at piece, posing as if she were someone important, watching the colors of the sky gently fade away.
The sun that had so lightly kissed her pale skin was now being hidden by a tide of shimmering twilight, dotted with shimmering stars. Their glistens of light glittered the sky to make it look nearly perfect. Nearly, for nothing is truly perfect, and she knew it. She sighed, wondering WHY nothing could achieve perfection. Perfect was just a word. It had no true meaning. It's definition was flawless, yet, everything is flawed, isn't it? SHE was most definitely flawed. She had cat ears and a tail, for God's sake! Of all the people in the world, she was one of them with a hell of a lot of reasons to not believe in perfection.

The woods. A common hang out for teenagers these days. Even though Sakura wasn`t that much a teenager anymore, she still walked about the place. Only it was night. Or close to it anyways. Sakura usually came by here for many reasons. Such as to get away from the noise her neighbors made and for some peace and quiet. The woods had always gave her a sense of relaxation. The Autumn breeze softly blowing her pink locks of hair and the branches rustling the wind. Ah, relaxation indeed. The green eyed woman smiled a dazed smile.
She had met so many people in the past few days she had started Sarutobi University. Tenten and Naruto. Sure that didn`t seem like much, but it was alright. It was all she needed to be brought back to High School. Stupid nostalgia. Sakura had promised herself never to get caught up in the past. Remembering her childish crush on Sasuke and foolish rivalry with Ino. That was way back in Middle School though. But the memories were still burned into her mind. Still fresh. Sakura still remembered how`d they`d suddenly split up. Never once contacting one another.
It hurt.
It hurt to know no one you once knew had cared enough to still remember you. It hurt to know they were all acting like old buds all of a sudden. Then again, they were old buds. Weren`t they? Even though they hadn`t contacted her in 2 and a half years, they still were. Right? Shaking the troublesome thoughts away, Sakura shoved her hands deep into her pockets, trying to distract herself. Of course she failed. Ignoring such thoughts was never something she had been good at. She didn`t need these thoughts to suddenly come racing into her mind. It was already troubled by her studies. She was trying to become a doctor and she needed to concentrate.
Her mind didn`t need to be crowded with unwelcome thoughts of the past. That just wasn`t acceptable. Focus and concentration was what Sakura needed at the moment. That`s why she had came to this place in the first place! But no, it had only brought back unneeded memories. Biting the inside of her cheek, Sakura stopped walking for a moment and sighed. Things just didn`t seem right at the moment. Then again, when had anythings ever felt right? It had all changed when everyone split up. But now, people from Sakura`s past were showing up left and right. To say the least...It was strange. No, beyond strange.
Maybe even a little ironic?
No. Sakura didn`t believe in fate or coincidences. It all just happened. She didn`t question what happened. Suddenly, her green eyes spotted white. White hair. This vaguely reminded her of Kakashi-sensei. Ah, good `ol Kakashi-sensei. Serious, yet perverted. Strange combination, but it seemed to work out fine. But this wasn`t Kakashi-sensei. Heck, it wasn`t even male. It was a she. Maybe Sakura should stop refering to her as an it, ne? Tilting her head to the right, Sakura decided to call out the girl. "Hey, you up there!" She hollered to the girl. There was no such thing as destiny or fate was. At least...
Sakura thought so.

She was called to. Did she care? No. Katanai kept looking out at the horizon. She didn't really want to interact with the human, considering how crappy humans usually treated her. She just gently pushed her nearly white hair out of her eyes. She stood, the wind blowing her hair back, her crimson eyes focused ahead of her. Yet, the voice seemed to ring still within her ear, which let out a slight quiver, from the noise. She allowed her blood-colored optics to drift from straight ahead of her. She was now peering at the girl who stood to the side of her. She had a light shade of pink for her hair (this disturbed Katanai, considering Pink was her least favorite color) and her eyes were a brilliant green. She wished that she, too, could look that beautiful. She noticed that the young woman, although her hair was an unfavorable color, was rather pretty in looks. Unlike Katanai, she was normal, having no mutated body parts, such as cat ears and a cat tail. Shaking her head, she chased the images of her former self being laughed at, picked on, spat upon by society, just because she was a little different. Petty. That's what full humans were. Her parents were the same way. They hadn't let her out of their site when they were alive, yet, Katanai missed them deeply. Many years had past since she was 13. She was now starting college at Sarutobi University. What a change this was! Maybe those kids grew up? Probably not.
She let out a sigh, feeling the impact of her cat jumping up on the same branch as her, her black fur tickling Kat's leg. Without moving the position of her body, Katanai said as a reply after the long silence, "Yes?" She then lowered her head. Putting her index finger upon her temple, as she added, "Have you come to laugh? Come to mock? If so, you can go home. This time, I won't deal with it, girl. Do you understand me? I have been the target of all that for too many years, and it stops now. I refuse to be a target for your foolishness." Katanai shook her head, realizing how foolish that was. What if the girl hadn't noticed her tail and ears? Well, that was too bad for her. Now the girl knew, and now, the girl could leave.
Running her finger tips through her hair, the breeze became even more cool. Katanai then remembered that she still had her possessions with her. She had not yet made it to her dorm. It had been a long journey from her old home, and now, she missed it--even those who made a mockery of her. She missed them all. Homesickness. Katanai thought that she'd be happy to rid herself of her blood-stained homestead. But no! It's memory ever hung itself in her mind, just like a maniac hanging themselves from a tree or something. It was there, lurking in the depths of her subconscious, and when she thought she was happy, it would come out and take a bite out of the young woman's soul. Why, God, why?! One would think that a past with such a tale would receive pity. Heavens no! Everyone was cruder yet.
Why wouldn't they ever stop? She would never know, would she? Shaking her head, chasing the thoughts away, she decided to focus once more on the scenery.
The leaves were of many different colors, but mainly orange and red. Katanai actually quite liked the red ones. They added a vibrant color to the sky. She allowed her eyes to linger upon her small cat for the moment, who nudged at her bag. Of course! This was her dorm for the night, she Katanai could unpack a couple things. Lucky her, she had brought a bag of cat food, three bottles of water, four pints of milk, and a couple foods such as packets of tea and some apples. Perfect. This would be more than enough to survive off of. She had a cell phone, but who would she call? Who would care?

His eyes peered over his towering neck-collar. His face emotionless, Itachi walked through the woods. He was just there to clear his mind. He wanted to wait as long as possible before running into his room mates, whoever they would turn out being. His mouth was unnoticeable, his eyes gleamed with hatred. He was the star of his clan, yet, he hated them all.
He was glad to be away from them for these college years. He even considered taking more advanced courses, just to stay there longer. But now, he would have to put up with his foolish little brother, who had a dream of one day beating him, Sasuke. He disliked Sasuke, but not as much as he disliked others in his family.
Carlessly, he walked through the woods. He could hear the leaves make a crunching sound as he walked over them. No big deal. It was just like any other day. Looking ahead of him, he saw two girls. Both of them looked younger than him. One had pink hair and green eyes like daggers, that could probably plunge into one's flesh when she was filled with rage.
The other had snow white hair, or so, as it seemed, and red eyes, that looked full of sadness and sought of purpose. This reminded Itachi of his little brother. This one also had the ears and tail of a cat. The man didn't care one bit. He just listened silently as she spoke of how she had gone through hell, and didn't want that from the pink-headed girl. He shook his head in pity as the girl looked even more troubled than ever. He sighed, walking towards their group. Maybe they wouldn't notice him? That was his hope, though, there was little chance of this happening, considering that there weren't a crowd of people there.
He tucked his one arm within his jacket, helping to hold it shut. It was a decently blustery night. He saw a small black creature jump up to the side of the cat-like girl. He knew, without looking at the creature in detail, that it must have been a cat. How? Context clues, my friends, context clues. The cat seemed to signal the girl to a bag. Was that the girl's things? That was pretty sad. She had really wandered this far away from dorms.
His naturally sullen eyes looked over the area. It was so peaceful, yet, he was troubled. The worst part was that Itachi didn't really know what was troubling him. If he knew why, he would at least be able to find a psychiatrist or get some medicine, like others like him did. Yet, even if he knew what his problem was, Itachi probably wouldn't go to the doctor. That wasn't his style. He would rather live with the risk than have to go through his life seeing a shrink about every little thing that went wrong in his life.
The leaves were tossed about. There was the sweet fragrance of apple blossoms and the autumnal leaves in the air. It was the scent of Autumn, alright. There was nothing like it in all the world--especially not Tokyo. He rubbed the side of his head. What would happen when his brother got there? Would they be room mates? He sure as hell hoped not. Sasuke would just be foolish, like always, and get in his way. How troublesome. Who in their right mind would want to put up with that? Well, Itachi didn't. That's why he allowed his brother to hate him so--in hope that someday, the smaller of the Uchiha would leave him alone.

Life was sick and twisted.
You never got what you wanted and only got what you didn`t want. But it all had some moral behind it. War. You fought for what was your`s. You fought for what you loved. It all that same sick moral. She remembered when she was little; being picked on and insulted. It hurt. Oh the pain. Oh the agony. Oh, why the hell was she complaining? It was over. She had friends now. But the hurt she had gone through was something she remembered. Sakura hadn`t been able to stick up for herself. She hadn`t been able to really trust someone. That was until Yamanaka Ino came along. Best friend and rival. The girl sitting above her was feeling the same way she had felt. Only ten times worse since she hadn`t had anybody come along to help her get over it. So what was the pink haired College Student to do?
Help.
The way the girl spoke, she could tell she was sad. Oh those psychology classes helped oh so much at times like these, Sakura was glad she had taken them. That and Chicken Soup. Thank Kami-same for Chicken Soup books. "Have you come to laugh? Come to mock? If so, you can go home. This time, I won't deal with it, girl. Do you understand me? I have been the target of all that for too many years, and it stops now. I refuse to be a target for your foolishness." She had said. It slightly confused her, but she sort of got it. The girl didn`t want to her to be there. Unfortunately, Sakura wasn`t going to leave. Nope. "Now, why would I do that?" Sakura replied casually, her left eyebrow arched and a slender hand on her right hip.
The answer was obvious. The abnormal features the girl carried. But, Sakura didn`t really mind. Naturally, she was curious; but she wasn`t that curious. Suddenly, the green eyes spotted a figure walking no to far away from both the girl and herself. Tall but not to tall. Dark, extremely dark. And suddenly the figure came into view. He looked vaguely familiar. In fact, he looked a lot like Sasuke...The thought of Sasuke made Sakura inwardly chuckle. The way Ino and her used to fight over him was quite pitiful now that you thought about it. But Sakura was sure this man wasn`t him. Last time she saw Sasuke, he was an arrogant A+ student. This man seemed arrogant, but more weary of the world.
More of a man Sasuke could ever be. Oh Kami-sama...Did she just think that? Shaking the thoughts away, she decided she would speak to them both. She`d always been the type to socialize. "Konbawa!" Sakura waved to the man with a slight smile and if you looked closely, a small blush. But she was sure no one would see it. She was sure! Suddenly it hit her! That was Uchiha Itachi. Older brother of Uchiha Sasuke. Legacy of the Uchiha clan. Oh Kami-sama. Her eyes widened as realization sank into her. He had graduated High School early. That, she envied him for. He was successful, and Sakura was jealous of that. Oh so jealous. Stiffining, Sakura slightly regreted calling him over.
To say the least, he intimidated her.
Turning toward the girl once again, Sakura wondered if she should greet herself. But she wanted to do it properly. Not from the ground. But actually face to face. "I hope you don`t mind me coming up!" Sakura hollered up as she took hold of a firmly placed branch. Taking another step up, Sakura began her climbing. The girl wasn`t what one would call a natural climber. Quite the opposite actually. She wasn`t what one would call graceful either. Sakura was lucky to be wearing jeans instead of a skirt. Very, very lucky. "Don`t look down. Don`t look down! Do not look down!" Sakura told herself. Stopping, Sakura tightened her grip on a piece of bark that was sticking out of the tree. Instinctively, Sakura looked down. Bad idea. Very bad idea.
She seemed so high. Her breathing hitched and suddenly, Sakura lost her grip on the bark. Her eyes widened. She was falling oh so quickly. Yet it seemed like eternity. Suddenly, she felt a searing pain go through her left arm. She was dizzy. Sakura knew she was on the ground. But it seemed like an alternate dimension. She couldn`t move her arm. She guessed it was probably broken. No blood. Good. Flinching, Sakura rolled onto her right. She needed to stay calm. The doctor-in-training didn`t want anyone to worry about her well-being. Not like they would. They were only strangers. People who had only wandered into her life by accident. "Quite a mess I`ve gotten myself into..." Sakura muttered with a wry smile.
By accident. It had definitely not been planned. Hopefully.

Why? Was the girl stupid? Blind, perhaps? What a completely stupid question. Then again, Katanai had just went on a short 'don't mess with me' rant, once more. She let out a sigh, wondering why she had even brought it up in the first place. Yet, on the other hand, by no means did the girl want to talk to the pink-haired speaker.
"Konbonwa!"
Katanai's crimson eyes quickly flickered closed, then opened. Closed, then open. What? Was this girl bi-polar as well? Just then, she noticed a man, standing there in the shadows. She didn't know who he was, or, why he was even there, but one thing was for sure, his dull, yet scourging eyes, his glare of all hatred--she knew that this guy was no one to mess around with; let alone, greet in such a friendly manor. She felt like saying, 'Are you out of your mind, girl?!', yet, she refrained from doing so.
As the girl turned back from the boy, to the tree where she sat, she called out to Katanai once more.
"I hope you don`t mind me coming up!"
Katanai was utterly puzzled. *Why is she so damn persistent with talking to me? Can't she see that I have problems with most humans?* Katanai thought with a slight tilt of her head. She watched with curiosity as the girl latched her hand onto the tree, climbing up. Pathetic. She shrugged her shoulders, guessing that most people weren't born with as much tree-climbing strength as she had been, ne?
Just then, the girl gasped. Katanai's eyes widened, simultaneous to the girl's eyes widening. She had looked down, and just then, she fell. How stupid! What a lousy excuse of an error. And yet, there the girl was, falling from the tree. Katanai would have jumped, but the thought of the fall made her stiffened in shock. She could scarcely breathe. She clenched her fist. *W-Why can't I help her? What's preventing me? Am I really that weak? I-I...* As all these thoughts ran through the girl's mind, she realized that she was thinking of her parents. Why hadn't she been home to help them when they were killed? It was the same type of situation. The girl was falling--Katanai couldn't bring herself to help. Her parents were being slaughtered--Katanai wasn't home. Why was she so...so...useless? She shook her head, as she heard the girl hit the ground. She jumped out of the tree, landing gracefully on her feat, as usual. Why could she do that? She didn't know. She was just born that way; the weird way.
She then heard the girl mutter, "Quite a mess I've gotten myself into..."
Why yes. Yes it was. The girl had no business coming into that tree after her like some fascinated tourist, or, or some zoologist. Ah, zoology. That was one thing that Katanai had long considered researching in college. It was a wonderful subject--the study of animals. She felt it was part of her, considering her odd...birthmarks. Or as she called it, curse marks. But, she decided against it, considering that the only animal that she was ever really interested in was cats. Who wouldn't be? The house cat especially, or, Felis domesticus. They fascinated her, unlike any other animal. Yet, if she were to become a zoologist, she'd have to have that same passion for all animals. She mentally shook herself. Why was she suddenly thinking about her career choices?
She just stood there, on the ground. She hated standing on the ground at times like that. She soon felt the weight of her cat jumping onto her shoulder. There she stood--hands on her hips, looking upon the fallen girl, Aurora on her shoulder, not saying a word. She just looked at her, head tilted to the side, observing her in a way.
Character Played: Misarashi Katanai Words: 670 Notes: Sorry for Shortness and lateness. >.>
He let out a sigh. He had failed at remaining unseen. How he loathed talking when he didn't want to talk. His cover was blown completely when that girl called out to him.
"Konbonwa!"
He knew that face. The face of the pink-haired girl that stood before him, pointing him out to the girl on the tree, ruining his "peaceful walk." He sighed once again, stepping out of the darkness that he had been in. He ran his hand through his jet-black hair. He then thought of his brother. He hated his brother, yet, his brother hated him more than he hated his brother. Just thinking about Sasuke made him a bit tenser, a bit more angry, a bit more wicked.
Thinking of his foolish little brother reminded him of the girl. Sakura was her name. She was his age; one of his admirers, as the boy could remember. She was always obsessing over Sasuke, ignoring their other friend...the little delinquent...Naruto, was his name. He didn't know whether to respond vaguely to her, or to just ignore her and walk away.
Reluctantly, he reminded himself that she probably wouldn't shut up if he ignored her. He then walked closer to the two, as she turned away.
The ignorance!
Why was she turning away after asking him for his attention. Foolish girl! She would loath the day she...she...fell out of a tree? The girl, no sooner had she turned away, had fallen from a tree. He sighed, walking over to where she had fallen. He then heard her mutter something about getting into a "mess." Well, it was her own fault for falling out of the tree.
Itachi was a smart person, and could easily fix her up. Yet, he didn't really want to, which was why he merely rolled his eyes, waisting his precious time to kneel down, push her up, take a long bandage wrap out of his pocket, and place it around her arm, slinging it over her neck. He knew that she would know what to do from there, being that she was studying to become a...doctor or something. Making sure that she was sitting on her own, and not just from him supporting her, he began to walk away, without ever saying a word.
Why without a word?
It was basically against his nature to say anything. He pretty much only cared for himself, and on occasion, for the other members of the Akatsuki. He normally wouldn't have helped at all, yet, he knew that the girl was loud-mouthed, social, and down right...how would Sasuke say this...annoying. Yes, she was very annoying. Thankfully, she had never really bothered Itachi before. But who knows what could now happen? She was basically "over" his foolish little brother. Not that he cared, but, he also didn't want her focusing her annoyance on him that would be...most troublesome. Therefore, he just walked ahead, not caring what happened next, decently sure that she would now leave him alone.
